How to Guarantee PUBYAC arrival


Spam has become a big problem for all of us. It has reached such proportions that most email services and Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have put at least one stringent blocking or filtering system in place, which all of our email must go through.

The problem is that these blocking systems often stop email which you want to receive and read. In fact, you might find you are not getting PUBYAC.

There is something everyone can do to keep your PUBYAC messages coming.

A tip for everyone using any type of email software...

Add PUBYAC to your Contact List:

Step 1 - Open the program in which you use to read your email. 

Step 2 - Add PUBYAC to your email address book to give you a better chance at receiving your daily postings. 

The PUBYAC email address for sending posts is pubyac-request@lists.prairienet.org.


How to Guarantee Further the Arrival of PUBYAC:

These instructions are relevant to users of AOL, Yahoo, Hotmail, or other email programs such as Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, and Netscape Mail.

 AOL
If you are using AOL, you can ensure the delivery of your PUBYACs by setting your "Mail Controls."

Step 1 - Go to option "Mail Controls."

Step 2 - Select the screen name we send PUBYAC.

Step 3 - Click "Customize Mail Controls for this Screen Name."

Step 4 - Open your latest PUBYAC e-mail.

Step 5 - Click the Add Address button (over on the right) to add the pubyac-request@lists.prairienet.org to your "People I Know" list.  While you're at it, add pubyac-bounces@lists.prairienet.org.

YAHOO
To ensure your newsletter delivery in your "Yahoo Inbox" and not the "Bulk Mail" folder, you can instruct Yahoo to filter it to your Inbox.

Step 1 - Open your Yahoo mailbox.

Step 2 - Click "Mail Options."

Step 3 - Click "Filters."

Step 4 - Next, click "Add Filter."

Step 5 - In the top row, labeled "From header," make sure "contains" is selected in the pull-down
menu.

Step 6 - Click in the text box next to the pull-down menu, then enter the domain in the "From"
line: pubyac.lis.uiuc.edu.

Step 7 - At the bottom, where it says, "Move the message to," select Inbox from the pull-down menu.

Step 8 - Click the "Add Filter" button again.

Repeat Steps 3  - 8, but in Step 6, enter the address in the "To" line.  


HOTMAIL
If you are using Hotmail, you can ensure that newsletters are delivered to your Inbox by adding Prairienet's domain address to your "Safe List".

Step 1 - Click the "Options" link (far right).

Step 2 - Select "Safe List." It is under the heading "Junk E-Mail Protection."

Step 3 - In the space provided, enter the domain name "lists.prairienet.org."

Step 4 - Click "Add."

Step 5 - Then you will see the address you entered in the "Safe List" box, click "OK."

You may also find your PUBYAC mail in your JunkMail folder.  If this happens, open a message and follow the directions for marking these e-mails as "Not Junk."


OTHER PROGRAMS
Many popular e-mail programs, including Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, and Netscape Mail, do not provide a convenient way for you to mark easily whom you want to receive e-mail from.

If you are using this sort of email system and you are not getting PUBYAC and want to make sure you continue to receive it in the future, you can do something about it.

Step 1 - Contact  your IT people or whoever provides your e-mail or Internet connection (your ISP).

Step 2 - Explain to them that PUBYAC messages, from domain lists.prairienet.org, are e-mails that you need.

Step 3 - Ask them to white-list the newsletters that you get from @lists.prairienet.org. They will probably ask you for some information about us.

Here is what to tell them:
PUBYAC's Sending Address: pubyac-request@lists.prairienet.org
Prairienet's Domain: @lists.prairienet.org
